Father’s Day 2020

Hello and Happy Monday to YOU! I hope you’re stopping by the blog today after a good weekend. We spent time celebrating one very special guy in our family yesterday (and missing our dads in Florida a bunch!) and I wanted to share a peek into our Father’s Day with all of you today.

Morning

Father’s Day began bright and early! Ryan and I were up around 6 a.m. and kicked off the morning with homemade German pancakes topped with powdered sugar, fresh strawberries and a drizzle of maple syrup.

German pancakes

German pancakes were always a special occasion breakfast in my family’s house when I was growing up and I still remember the first time I made them for Ryan because he was all about them, too! The pancakes puff up so well in the oven and look so cool and yet the recipe is so incredibly easy to make. They’re so darn good and once the boys were up for the day, they went to town on these pancakes, too. (I’m pretty sure finding out breakfast included powdered sugar on Sunday sealed the deal for them.)

Since our whole crew was up and about nice and early, we took advantage of the not-too-hot morning temperatures outside and headed off on a family walk around the neighborhood.

Julie 28 weeks pregnant Ryder Chase

(28 week baby bump! I cannot believe I’ll officially be in my third trimester tomorrow. Ah!)

By the time we made it home we were ready for breakfast 2.0 (banana orange smoothies for all!) and as we sipped our smoothies, we gave Ryan some homemade cards and a bunch of little Father’s Day surprises including a shirt with lizards all over it from Chase (in honor of Lizardy) and a new swimsuit with compression shorts built into the lining. I totally fell for an Instagram ad for Fair Harbor swimwear for Ryan because I loved the style and thought he’d be all about the built-in compression shorts since he often likes to go from outside activities to swimming and wears compression shorts under his athletic shorts to prevent chafing. (They also make matching kid trunks and this maaay have to happen in the future…) Just in case they sound up your alley, too, this affiliate link will give both of us $20 off our next order!

Our main activity for the day looked like boating around Lake Norman which I’m sure is no surprise to you guys since it’s basically our family’s favorite thing in the world to do on the weekends this time of year.

I love this pic of Ryder absolutely beaming in Ryan’s lap. He basically freaks out until Ryan lets him “help” drive the boat in the beginning of our ride every time. Ryder eventually opts to sit in my lap but he definitely likes to play captain, too!

Our family spent about four hours on the water and majorly lucked out by finding a great little beach spot to drop anchor where the boys could play.

We also ate the picnic we packed on the beach and splashed around until everyone was ready to head home.

True to Ryder form, he napped for about 15 minutes on the boat ride back to the dock which completely ruined any plans for an afternoon nap. We still figured the boys could use a little downtime though and spent a couple of hours at home. I also managed to slip out and do a little grocery shopping (my first in-store shopping experience in weeks since we’ve been all about Instacart) and grabbed food for our family for the week ahead. The number one thing on my list? Hot dogs! We planned to take the boys fishing at the marina later that afternoon and since Ryan swore by hot dogs as the ultimate bait for fish when he was a kid growing up in Florida, we figured we’d give them a go!

Let’s just say hot dog bait was a huge success!

Chase managed to reel in 5 or 6 bluegills and was in heaven.

Ryder and Sadie made sure to investigate every catch.

By the time we made it home, dinner was calling our names, so Ryan gave the boys a bath while I assembled dinner for everyone and whipped up a final Father’s Day treat.

Homemade cookies ‘n’ cream ice cream! If every weekend could end with that stuff, I definitely wouldn’t complain!

As for the week ahead, it’s looking like a H-O-T one so I’m planning to fill our days with outside water fun and an assortment of random activities. Hope you guys have a great week!!
